We would like to translate eBuddy into many different languages so everyone can use eBuddy in their own language. Hopefully you can help us out! We have created this eBuddy Wiki with an English template for the website, the mobile and the web application. You can fill in the blanc cells and/or improve current translations. If you have contributed to a translation please add your name to the contributers list so we know who to thank!

Dear Team,

You guys have done a great job! At this moment, 29 out of 55 languages are fully completed! Some languages such as Persian, Slovak and Thai are nearly finished as well so I hope to announce them to be 100% soon.

Niels has implemented a new function on the Translation page and therefore from now on every hour of the day, the % complete will be updated automatically, also in the weekends. This means that you can immediately see the updated status of the language you are translating.

Secondly, I have a question. Benazio, an Indonesian Translator for eBuddy mailed me with the request for an informal version of the Indonesian language. Indonesian has many different forms and the current eBuddy Translation is a formal version and many eBuddy users don’t use that in real life so we will open the extra Indonesian Gaul (informal) language.

I can imagine that there are more requests for informal or more specified languages. For example, the Arabic version we offer now is a very basic one, is this sufficient for you or would you like an extra informal or regional version to be added? Also, we support two versions of Portuguese; one for Portugal and one for Brazil but we only offer one Spanish version. I have personally traveled a bit in Latin-America and there is a big difference between Spanish spoken in Spain and in for example Mexico or Chile. Do you feel anything in adding a “Latin-American” Spanish to the Translations?

I would love to see some ideas or suggestions/comments on the message board. Also if you have anything about another language, everything is welcome!

I will be on the road the next four weeks but I will keep working on the Translations as much as I can. It could happen that it takes a few days to get back to you if you ask me questions but I will do my best to reply asap! Looking forward to your reactions!

Great work. You guys have once again done a great job and updated 16(!) languages to 100%. This means that every new eBuddy feature is translated into your own language such as the Snapshot function on the eBuddy Mobile Messenger (which I absolutely love btw ). I also want to thank you guys for continuously checking and improving already made improvements. This task is very important because it makes your language much more attractive for all!

Some languages are very close to being 100% complete so I would like to ask you to put some extra work in the following languages so you can use all new features in your own language…

Brazilian Finnish French Hebrew Italian Japanese Norwegian Persian Polish Portuguese Spanish Vietnamese

Dear eBuddy Translators,

I noticed that some minor mistakes are regularly made, so hereby I would like to give you some advise:

1) before you start translating your language, please practice on the specially designed Playground It happens often that a Translator’s work is lost after many efforts and that’s just too harsh to live with…

2) Please don’t translate words such as AOL, eBuddy, eBuddy ID, GTalk, MSN, MYSPACE, Yahoo! But leave ‘brand’ names as they are.

3) While translating, please don’t translate the %s in for example: and add %s to my Messenger List All translations you make, are the actual translations that will be placed in the eBuddy applications. Keys such as %s mean that in that place, a user name or status is placed in the actual application so please leave them in your translation.
